St James's Rd Mural Community Artwork Workshop

St James’s Rd Mural Artwork Workshop

On Saturday 15th August, everyone is invited to join us to celebrate the history of the Blue in Bermondsey and contribute to create a unique piece of street art by submitting words for a mural at this free workshop.

As part of the Made In Bermondsey regeneration project, local people expressed a desire for the creation of two community murals at St James’s Rd and John Bull railway arches as a celebration of the area’s rich historic heritage, drawing inspiration and responding to the local community and its evolving demographic.

Add your own words

The event is a great opportunity for everyone to contribute with your own words to highlight the past and present of Blue Bermondsey as part of the project.

Selected words and phrases will form the basis of a hand painted typographic mural to be designed by Fraser Muggeridge Studio and created under the railway bridge at St James’s Rd. Your words, your language, will be part of the area for years to come.

Don’t miss the chance to submit your words.

About the project

Public Art CommissionSt James Arch Lettering Mural

Designed by London graphic designers Fraser Muggeridge studio, this project aims to bring to light the contemporary and historical aspects of the Blue through your eyes as locals to the area.

Your words and phrases will be hand-painted at a large scale on St James Arch, celebrating the past and the present area.

The 25 metre mural will visually reference the hand-painted advertising signage at the turn of the 20th century – the ‘Ghost signs’ of which can still be seen on London streets.
