Market Place new layout

GLA Approve the Blue regeneration design plans

Works set to begin October 2020

The design proposals for the regeneration of the Market Place, developed by locally based design collective, Assemble and architects Hayatsu have been approved by the GLA design review panel.

The project was made possible after a community campaign led by Blue Bermondsey BID was awarded £2m from the Mayor of London’s LEAP Good Growth Fund and now the planning application is with Southwark Council and when approved, it is anticipated that the works will begin in late October 2020.

The designs have been developed through a variety of activities held from June 2019 to May 2020 working in close collaboration with the partner groups, stakeholders and a wide-ranging public consultation period conducted from July to October 2019 which helped to shape the final designs.

The works centre on improvements to the Market Place and will also include better physical connections to the Blue, enhancements to some community buildings, more greening and makeovers for independent shops
