Interpretation Of Shakespeare And Contemporary Texts for actors
Are you interested in acting? Deafinitely Theatre have partnered with RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) to offer professionally led accessible acting training. The Hub is aimed at Deaf, Hard of Hearing and hearing artists who use British Sign Language aged 18+.
This 12-week course will be split into 3 modules with the aim of increasing your confidence in working with Shakespeare and modern text.

About Deafinitely Theatre
Deafinitely Theatre is the first deaf launched and deaf led professional theatre company in the UK producing quality bilingual theatre in British Sign Language and spoken English.
1: Shakespeare
Led by Nadia Nadarajah, you will explore how stories, lexicons and timelines contribute to a greater understanding of Shakespeare’s plays. You will look at the use of Shakespeare in contemporary art forms and the role his stories have played in the recreations and interpretation of the text. You will explore the language of Shakespeare through meaning and how to translate it into the visual poetic language of BSL.
2: Modern Text
This module led by Ilan Dwek will look at modern plays and work with monologues. You will learn how to avoid certain pitfall in translating from modern English into BSL such as resisting the overpowering nature of English form over visual expression.
3: Auditioning
The last 2 sessions will be led by RADA’s Associate Director and Chair of Audition Panel, Nona Shepphard. This will be a chance to put theory into practice learning audition technique. If you have already attended the Audition Technique module on previous Hub courses, this is optional.
This course is open to actors of all abilities
Suitable for fluent BSL users and /or have at least level 4/6.
Places are limited
If you are on low income and can not afford the course fees, a limited number of bursaries are available to provide this course for free.
