Barista Traineeship

Hospitality Barista Traineeship offered by Catch 22 and Compass Group

This traineeship is a pre-apprenticeship programme delivering teaching and training to prepare candidates for work within the hospitality sector. Focused around the skills required to be a Barista and the Customer Service skills required to deliver top class service.

Who is it for?

It is available to all NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) young people in the area. The training will start on the 7th June and organisers are looking to engage with learners who are 16-19 (up to 24 if they have an EHCP). They are also willing to take on older learners on a case by case basis if you feel they would benefit from the programme.

Programme outline

  • 12 week programme, based out of Hej! Coffee in Bermondsey Square, one of Compass Group’s venue.
  • Candidates will attend classroom training 2 days per week, with 1 & ½ days remote learning and ½ day bike maintenance session with Jake.
  • Commitment of 3 and ½ days in total per week.

On weeks 5 and 10 of the programme, there will be full weeks of work experience within a Compass Group venue to work as a Barista.

Upon completion, each candidate will be interviewed for a position within Compass Group to go onto the new Barista Apprenticeship with my team. This will be a full time job as well as the apprenticeship.

Traineeship details

Experience working within one of Compass Group’s venues across London

  • The programme includes two full weeks of work experience within one of Compass Group’s hospitality venues. (see programme outline)
  • This will give you the opportunity to experience the life of a hospitality assistant
  • Putting the skills you have learnt from the classroom training, you will work within a team, learning the skills and behaviours required of one of their highly trained staff

This work experience will occur during weeks 5 and 10 of the traineeship

Training to be provided

All training will be delivered from our venue in Bermondsey, London.

As part of the programme each candidate will receive teaching & training around the following subjects:

  • Customer Service Level 1 Award (City & Guilds)
  • Functional Skills English & maths (if required)
  • Employability Skills (including CV writing, job application skills, interview skills)
  • Digital Skills

In addition to the above, all candidates will complete the Speciality Coffee Association Foundation Course which is a highly valued qualification within the Barista sector.

Any candidate who completes full attendance each week will be invited to an enrichment programme based around bicycle maintenance. This will be delivered on a separate site and by a team of bike maintenance experts including the YouTube sensation Jake100

What this will lead to

  • Every candidate who completes the Traineeship programme will be given a guaranteed interview by Compass Group
  • Following the guaranteed interview any candidate successfully being offered employment will be given the opportunity to apply for a Hospitality Team Member Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard
