Thanks to everyone who made this possible

This application was put together after lots of hard work, where hundreds of local people took part in surveys and focus groups to give their input on what would help to revive the Blue’s high street and historic Blue Market.

The funding will be used for:

  • Improvements to Market Place, public buildings, signage and road crossings
  • Business advice and refurbishment for local shops
  • Setting up of new pop up shops and social enterprises in disused shops and community spaces
  • Regular weekend events
  • Marketing of the Blue to local people and visitors from further afield

The Blue, the hidden gem of London

Cllr Kieron Williams, Ex-Cabinet Member for Jobs, Skills and Innovation at Southwark Council, said:

“The Blue is one of London’s hidden gems, with some fantastic local businesses and a real community spirit. Whilst it is a tough time for high streets, with so many people now shopping in the big supermarkets and online, the Blue has a real sense of potential. That’s thanks to the way the local community, businesses and council are working together to bring new ideas to the town centre. This investment from the Mayor will be a huge boost for that work and will help to ensure the Blue continues to be the heart of Bermondsey.”
