Bermondsey Lion Makeover

The Iconic Bermondsey Lion Sculpture in Market Place is getting a makeover. Since being unveiled in 2011 the sculpture has has become rather rundown. The original idea was to leave it to weather and take on its own rusty character but the local Pigeons have taken a liking to perching on the Lions back and the consequence of this, is the unsightly mass of droppings spoiling his appearance, making it very difficult to clean off. Blue Bermondsey BID successfully applied for funding for the makeover from Southwark Council’s Cleaner, Greener, Safer fund and the original creator of the artwork Kevin Boys, has been appointed to do the works. Kevin said “I am pleased to be doing the works as I am proud of the Lion and myself and the team will be doing a first class job that will look great for many years”
